Week 9

July 20st - July 26th: LaTeX, Roses, and Marys Peak

Week 8 < ----------------- > Week 10

I spent this week playing around with the algorithms, and on Tuesday I met with Forrest to see what he wanted me to focus on for my last two weeks. We discussed my final paper that I need to write for the DREU project and all of the documents that I will need to prepare for the team when I leave. He helped me get an idea of things that I could include in my paper and introduced me to LaTeX. In the past I had the opportunity to use it for writing a research paper in one of my classes, but I chose not to, and I have been regretting turning that down. So after Forrest gave me a brief tutorial, I took some time to download it onto my computer and play around with it for a while. I spent the rest of the week cleaning up my code that I will be handing over to the team next week and looking up more sources that will help when writing my paper.

WEEKEND: Another nice, hot weekend in Oregon, but it will be missed when I get back to the humidity in Minnesota. Friday afternoon I headed to Portland with Melissa and we went to the famous Rose Gardens and took some pretty cool pictures. We also went shopping downtown. Saturday morning I again went to the market and then in the afternoon we floated down the river on our tubes for a couple of hours. Sunday, my roommate, Sabrina, and I hiked Marys Peak, which is the highest peak in the Oregon Coastal Range. It was 2.6 miles to the top (taking the East Ridge Trail) and it took us about an hour and a half to make it up. The view was really amazing and we took tons of pictures.
