Week 7

July 6th - July 12th: Bugs, Beach, and Cheese

Week 6 < ----------------- > Week 8

On Monday, Forrest and I got together with the ecologists (Adam and Sarah) and one of their field techs (Iris) to go over the program that I created so they could start using it. It was very interesting to get to see those that could actually tell the kinds of birds use the program. Since Iris was the one using the program, I set up a time to work with her on Tuesday so that I could help her with any issues and trouble shoot any bugs that she might come across. I spent the rest of the week working with her and fixing minor bugs that came up as well as going through my code and starting to clean it up.

WEEKEND: My Roommate, Melissa, is going to school for biology and loves to go hiking around the area. She invited me with her on Saturday to hike Cape Look Out with her on the coast 2 hours north of where we are. It was a gloomy day, but still warm, so we set off and ended up going down the wrong trail. Instead of going up to the Cape, we ended up down on the shore. The water was freezing, but it was fun to walk barefoot and look at all of the cool stuff that had been washed up. When we finally made it back to the trailhead we realized that the path we took was moderate to difficult compared to the easy to moderate trail we were going to take. Oh well. We then went to the nearby town of Tillamook and toured their cheese factory where we got to taste their good ice cream and yummy cheese curds. It was a pretty cool day. One of Melissa's friends was having a birthday party and she had rented a house by the shore, so we stayed up there for the night and ended up having a fire on the beach roasting marshmallows and eating s'mores. It was a pretty cool weekend!
