CRA makes an award, usually annually, to a person who has made an outstanding service contribution to the computing research community. This award recognizes service in the areas of government affairs, professional societies, publications or conferences, and leadership that has a major impact on computing research.

1994 William A. Wulf Awardee Chair, National Research Council's Computer Science and Telecommunications Board

Wulf’s service includes founding Tartan Laboratories, heading the Computing Science Department of the University of Virginia, heading the Computer and Information Sciences and Engineering Directorate at the National Science Foundation.
