Undergraduate students who had participated in summer REUs were asked about the degree to which they obtained experience with the publication process while engaged in those REUs. Participants in CRA-W/CDC summer REU programs indicated that they had obtained significantly more experience with the publication process than students who had taken part in other summer REUs, p ≤ .05. On May 7, at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, DC, the Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF) held its 19th annual exhibition and reception, “Investments in STEM Research and Education: Fueling American Innovation.”

CRA is a sponsor and was among the exhibitors showcasing research and education projects supported by the National Science Foundation. On behalf of CRA, John Melchi and Brett Bode from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign were on hand to talk about the "Blue Waters" project.

The National Science Foundation has developed a suite of funding opportunities, the Innovation Corps Programs (I-Corps), to help transition academic research outcomes into the marketplace.

One of these programs, the NSF Innovation Corps Sites Program (I-Corps Sites), expands our nation’s innovation ecosystem through fostering translation of academic research into the marketplace, catalyzing collaboration between academia and industry, and training students to understand innovation and entrepreneurship.

I-Corps Sites are funded for up to $100,000 per year for up to three years. The due date for responding to the I-Corps Sites funding opportunity is July 1st, 2013.

CRA Announces Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Award Winners

The Computing Research Association honors the recipients of its 2013 Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Awards, which recognizes undergraduates in North American colleges and universities who show outstanding research potential in an area of computing research. This year’s awards are sponsored by Microsoft Research. Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs and Microsoft Research sponsor the awards in alternate years.

In September 2012, the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) launched “Computing Research in Action,” a new video series in partnership with Patrick Sammon (Story Center Productions), Executive Producer of the Codebreaker film. The series is an expansion of our popular “Highlight of the Week” feature, in which we highlight each week exciting and important recent research results throughout the field. Through Computing Research in Action, the CCC plans to periodically develop two- to five-minute video segments on selected research to showcase on our website and YouTube channel. We are pleased to announce our first Computing Research in Action video, which showcases Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology being developed at the University of Delaware.
