Updates from the CCC

By CCC Staff

The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) has spent the first half of the academic year ramping up its activities for the computing research community.  In the beginning of the year, CCC released two requests for proposals: one for the Implementation of Best Practices for Postdocs in our field and one for new Visioning Activities.  Both programs received submissions that are currently being reviewed.  Look for announcements in both of these areas on the CCC blog in the coming weeks.  Also, please keep in mind that we can accept proposals for Visioning Activities throughout the year.  If you have a great idea for a workshop, please submit it.

“You can and should shape your own future; because if you don't someone else surely will.” (Joel Barker, a noted futurist).

The computer science community has a track record of shaping the future via compelling visions unencumbered by our past successes. The CCC facilitates this via special tracks in conferences to encourage researchers to think out-of-the-box and share their “blue-sky” ideas through a sponsored forum at traditional conferences.

In the past, such conference tracks used a variety of names leading to peripheral debates regarding the differences across alternative names. To convey the unity of purpose of these tracks, the CCC has renamed our support of these conference tracks as the Blue Sky Ideas Conference Track.

Please visit the website to learn more about the Blue Sky Ideas Conference Track and how you can bring it to your conferences.

As reported in the September CRN, the CCC is continuing its work with Postdocs in Computer Science.  In addition to the Best Practices program referenced above, CCC is holding a workshop for all former CIFellows in May.  This will be an opportunity to bring the former Fellows together to learn from each other and luminaries in the computing field as they move through their own research careers.  Peter Lee, Head of Microsoft Research, Farnam Jahanian from NSF, and Megan Smith from Google[x] will be there!
