Week 4 (June 7 - June 13) :

Work Stuff: As my first project is about teaching the robot playing a color sorting game, there are two tasks to complete the project: first is about image processing in which the robot will study the color of the ball and the flags and then come up with a route to group the ball with a similar color flag, and second is about movement in which the robot will use its straw arms to push the ball following the route in the first task. This week, surprisingly against to my anticipation, the task of following the route is not as easy as it sounds. The main reason is that the robot does not go on a straight line. You can read more about the problematic in making the robot going on a straight line at http://myro.roboteducation.org/pipermail/myro-users/2008-October/000457.html Although, I have been able to find some promising idea to pursue the problem such as installing an optical encoders to the wheels of the robot or using the black tape to increase the accuracy of the getLine() command, at the end, I stick with my simplest solution which is a little pre-setup in the game because of the following benefits that it offers over those promising ideas: first, because I do not have to do an operation on the robot to install anything, my solution offers a freedom in choosing any robot to play the game; second, my solution offers a clean finishing product in which the controller doesn’t need to apply black tape across the platform.

Life stuff: This week, I am excited for I am able to get in touch with the transfer counselor of the University of Minnesota. He and I are going to sit down next week to talk about my plan of transferring to the University of Minnesota.
