Daily Life

I'm resisting the urge to begin packing! I'm very excited to see my daughters. We're planning a family trip to a local Six Flags (The Great Escape), and to see the latest Harry Potter movie. I did my final grocery shopping for the next week on Thursday with Rachel.

Research

The PRMRoadmap_testSerial.map file project has been halted. It will be resumed in the future by someone else on Dr. Tapia's team. I've been asked to work on another more urgent project in my remaining time. This project is related to the work we've been doing. We're formatting pdb files and designing box robots of these proteins for Protein Motion Planning studies.

IgE, FceR images developed by The Medical Hospital of UNM (to be submitted for publication with the Protein Data Bank (PDB) at www.pdb.org) were used to design robots for future study of the energy paths to help determine binding affinity and clustering. The PDB files were opened using USSF Chimera (a highly extensible, interactive molecular graphics program). Chimera was then used to reduce the resolution of the protein. This was done as higher resolution images resulted in a dramatic increase of time needed when the images were imported to Vizmol. The reduced resolution image was then exported in a format usable by Maya (3D animation, visual effects and compositing software). The images in Maya were reformated again (both the original protein images and redesigned box imagesfor reformated) and exported for use in Vizmo (a 3D visualization/authoring tool for files provided/generated by OBPRM motion planning library)

I worked on my final report this week. Naturally, it's taking a great deal of my time, and I'm a bit anxious about what will be needed to complete the report on time. I'm receiving assistance from Prof. Tapia and John Baxter. Rachel and I are also sharing information.

On Wednesday, we attended a seminar on Analyzing Immune Cell Migration. The speaker, Dr. Rob de Boer did an excellent job of presenting this topic in layman's term.

On Thursday, we attended a weekly Brown Paper Bag Lunch session regarding Technical Public Speaking, presented by Lobo Toastmasters.

Next Week

For week 10, I will continue to draft and finalize my report. A cube robot of 1RFO and DNP will be prepared. I will also continue to revise and finalize my DREU website and submit a final weekly report on the work done at the end of the week.
