About DREU

Distributed Research Experience for Undergraduates (DREU) is a project sponsored by the CDC and CRA-W. This program looks to increase the number of women and underrepresented groups entering graduate studies in the fields of computer science and engineering. Selected undergraduates are matched with a faculty mentor for a summer research experience.

About CDC

The Coalition to Diversify Computing (CDC) is a joint organization of the ACM, CRA and IEEE-CS. It's goal is to increase the number of minorities in the academic and industry fields of computer science. This is done through recruitment of minority undergraduates to post graduate programs, retention of these graduate students, and transition into academia and industry.

About CRA and CRA-W

The Computing Research Association (CRA) is working to promote research and education in computer science and related fields of study. They focus on influencing government policy, furthering human resources, and strengthening the professional community.

There are over 200 North American organizations that are members including: academic departments of computer science and computer engineering, laboratories, industry partners and professional societies.

Those who know me may also be interested to know that the computer science departments at the University of Calgary, University of Alberta, Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia are listed as members along with the Canadian Association of Computer Science.

CRA-W is a committee of the CRA which is concerned with the status of women in computing research. Their goal is to increase the number of women in computer science and engineering research and education, and the success that these women experience. Their hope is that these improvements will be felt by other underrepresented groups in the computer science fields.
