A Conference: Urban Girls: Entering the New Millennium

The Graduate School of Education in conjunction with the Institute for Research and Education on Women and Gender (IREWG), both of the State University of New York at Buffalo, is hosting a major national conference on Urban Girls. This conference is aimed at scholars, teachers, social workers, health care professionals, counselors, administrators, interested parents and urban girls themselves. The conference focuses on the strengths of these young women across racial and ethnic groups as well as ways in which their lives can be improved.

We are seeking exciting paper presentations and projects in the following areas:

PROCEDURES FOR SUBMITTING PROPOSALS

Submit four stapled copies of a proposal. The top of the first page should indicate the section for which you are applying (e.g., Sexuality and Reproduction). The first page should also include the name, address and phone number of all participants. Proposals may be for a poster session as well as papers.

  • If an individual paper or poster proposal, it should be no longer than two pages.
  • If a panel proposal, it should be no longer than three pages and the panel organizer should be clearly marked on the first page.
  • The proposal needs to include: a brief overview of the research paper; a summary of the findings; and a discussion of their linkage to policy and/or practice.
  • If a panel proposal, all papers must be briefly summarized along the lines noted above.

Indicate on the proposal the section head(s) noted under the topic for which you are applying. If questions, please contact the section head(s) directly. Proposals must be postmarked no later than September 15, 1999. Potential participants will be notified by November 1, 1999 as to their inclusion in the program. It is our intention to publish the Proceedings. Tentative registration cost is $120.00. We anticipate a reduced rate for graduate students.
